Location: Bayfront Ave, Singapore 018956

Breathtaking indoor waterfall and art installation by Ned Kahn at The Shoppes MBS.

Breathtaking indoor waterfall and art installation by Ned Kahn at The Shoppes MBS.

The Rain Oculus is one of Marina Bay Sands' most mesmerising attractions, and it costs nothing to witness. Created by artist Ned Kahn in collaboration with architect Moshe Safdie, this colossal installation features a 22-metre-diameter acrylic bowl that gathers rainwater and releases it in a dramatic vortex cascade two storeys down into the canal below.

Positioned at the heart of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, the Rain Oculus functions as both a skylight and a spectacular piece of kinetic art. Water flows at peak rates of 22,000 litres per minute, and the whirlpool constantly shifts in shape and intensity as pumps cycle on and off. The recycled water also feeds the canal that powers the Sampan rides nearby.

Catch the hourly cascades, listen for the acoustic whisper gallery around its circumference, and appreciate how engineering and artistry converge in this unforgettable Marina Bay landmark.
